College of Lake County to color it blue for autism
The College of Lake County will be lit up in blue on Monday, April 2, as the college participates for the first time in Global Autism Awareness Day. The “Light It Up Blue” committee is planning events to educate students and staff about autism.
Blue foods such as cotton candy and snow cones will be served in common areas. Tickets to win blue-themed gift baskets will also be sold. Proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks. According to the website, this is the third “Light It Up Blue” event, a global initiative to help raise awareness about autism.
CLC employees are encouraged to decorate their offices blue in a contest to see which department can best “blue it up.” The winning department will be treated to a free lunch.
Sticker sheets supporting Autism Awareness will be sold and staff members are encouraged to wear blue jeans. Live blues music will be performed, students will dress up as “Blue Man Group” performers, and kids from the Children’s Learning Center will be search for “Blues Clues” (from the popular children’s TV show).
