Volunteers bring a day at the salon to Little Angels

The Little Angels Developmental Training Center was filled with the smells and sounds of a salon on Friday, March 9.

Students from the Cosmetology and Spa Institute of Schaumburg and Crystal Lake spent all day pampering clients of the center with new haircuts, hairstyles and manicures. Clients rotated between a haircut room, styling center and manicure station in spaces normally used for sensory, educational and vocational learning.

The Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care serves individuals with severe developmental disabilities and complex medical needs. Visits to a hair salon and spa are few and far between, and opportunities for this type of care are special.

The enjoyment of the residents and clients during the day was apparent by the smiles on their faces.

“The clients at DT loved the experience! The CSI students did an awesome job and seemed to really enjoy working with our residents,” stated Tammy Armstrong, DT Director.

Little Angels is a state-of-the-art facility that offers round-the-clock nursing, therapeutic and habilitation services in a warm, caring environment; and provides highly specialized care to 57 children and young adults. The Developmental Training Center is a therapeutic training program for young adults with severe disabilities.
