For 14th year new board games given to help needy kids

When patients at Dr. John E. Murphy's office miss an orthodontic appointment, they aren't asked to pay a no show fee. Rather, they get asked to do something a little more interesting, donate a board game. For 14 years, Dr. Murphy and his staff have partnered with Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) to bring brighter birthdays to needy children by donating new board games to HSP's Children's Birthday Project. Dr. Murphy's office wanted to give back to the community and found this to be a fun and unique way to do so. They recently donated 11 board games to HSP's Children's Birthday Project

The board games will be used in the Birthday Boxes of HSP's Children's Birthday Project. The program provides a child ages 3-11 with a 15-20 lb. Birthday Box containing 5-7 new books, 4-8 new toys, school supplies, stuffed animals, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest poverty-stricken, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited over 2000 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
