Look for continuing ed courses from MCC at Huntley parks rec center

McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department has partnered with the Huntley Park District to offer cake decorating, digital photography, women’s self-defense, and a new art class called Zentangle, at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center, 12015 Mill St., Huntley.

Cake Decorating I: Melody Stanko, a professional cake decorator for more than 14 years, will teach the basics of cake decorating. Participants will get hands-on experience with a wide variety of decorating techniques including shells, rosettes, borders, basket weaving and piping. Plan to spend approximately $25, which will be discussed at the first class. Class takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 2-30 at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center. Cost is $65. Zentangle: The new art form, Zentangle, is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It increases focus and creativity in an organized way that otherwise might be considered whimsical. All materials will be provided; additional supplies may be purchased. Class takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center. Cost is $35. Use course ID NFA S45 003 when registering.
Basic Digital Photography: This action-packed class will focus on how to create and care for interesting digital photos. The basics of digital photography will be explained, while participants learn elements of exposure control, photographing people, lowlight photography, action shots and close-ups. Sharing images and storing photos will be covered. Bring your camera; any type of digital camera is suitable. Class takes place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 18-March 4 at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center. Cost is $99. Use course ID NPH S13 003 when registering.
F-Stops & Shutter Speeds: Many people keep their digital cameras set on the, safe Auto setting and let the camera do the thinking. Are you unsure of what the different settings and letters mean? As a result, you’re only using a fraction of the features on your camera. You can learn how to easily use the settings on your camera to get the effects and results you want in your photos. Class takes place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center. Cost is $59. Use course ID NPH S11 021 when registering.
Women’s Self-Defense: One out of every three women will be a victim of assault in her lifetime. The greatest number of attacks occur at homes or apartments, and the victim is selected because she is alone and vulnerable. Myths of self-defense, verbalization, pressure points and assault awareness/resistance measures will be covered in an hour of lecture, followed by an hour of hands-on technique lessons. Class takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Huntley Park District Recreation Center. Cost $15. Use course ID NPL S14 026 when registering.
