Onion Pub, Wild Onion Brewing Co. celebrate St. Patrick's Day

The Onion Pub and The Wild Onion Brewing Company (http://www.onionpub.com) are rolling out the red – actually green – carpet for St. Patrick's Day, offering revelers a preview of its new menu, house-made craft beer selections, and free entertainment by a renowned Irish trio – all in a remodeled casual pub atmosphere.

The brewpub, tucked away at 22221 Pepper Rd. (http://mapq.st/A8im6x) near the Lake Barrington Field House, will unveil its seasonal Irish Red Ale on St. Patrick's Day. “The Irish Red is brewed exclusively with imported barley and hops, creating a crisp, smooth flavor and a well-rounded, creamy mouthfeel,” explained Brewmaster Mike Kainz. “We'll also be serving our cask-conditioned Russian Imperial Stout on hand-pump, Belgian-style White Ale Summer Wit, and flagship brand Paddy Pale Ale. Craft beer drinkers will appreciate our ever-changing lineup of year-round and seasonal styles.”

On the Onion Pub St. Patrick's Day dinner menu: a signature Kainzbrau Beer Cheese Soup, Hops Slayer Sausage (an Onion Pub exclusive, locally made using its Hops Slayer Double IPA), and Traditional Corned Beef entrée or sandwich. Additional food items and a full bar will also be available.

From 8 to 12 p.m., The Boils (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIYgFw8W5Lc ), a high-energy trio playing traditional and contemporary Irish music, will deliver a blend of Irish jigs and reels, plus some original songs and covers. Before coming together as The Boils, Chicago musicians Jack Callahan, James Conway and Mike Austin performed with some of the world's top Irish musicians in venues spanning the United States and Europe.

"We have renovated the Pub with a very beer-centric theme throughout, focusing on the brewery as part of our new look. St. Patty's Day is the traditional beginning of the spring beer-drinking season, so we're excited to kick it off in style", said John Kainz, co-owner and brother of Mike. The Kainz family opened the original Pub in 2003.

Several dishes on The Onion Pub's new menu incorporate its craft beers and ales, plus seasonal ingredients, including produce grown on the 11-acre site behind the pub. The Kainz brothers plan weekly brewery tours and quarterly brewmaster dinners, beginning in April.
