Food and art for CLC fundraiser:
Food and art will be combined to fight hunger in the third annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, to be held at the College of Lake County Library Atrium, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14. Proceeds will benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank. For a minimum donation of $10 per bowl, event attendees can purchase a handmade ceramic bowl and receive a serving of chili and cornbread. Members of the CLC Community Clay Association, consisting of faculty and students, have created more than 1,000 bowls for the event. In addition, the CLC hospitality and culinary management program will prepare the chili and cornbread. The 2011 Empty Bowls event raised $7,000 for the Northern Illinois Food Bank and helped boost awareness about the issues of hunger, according to Ben Bates, club adviser and ceramics instructor.
