Rotary Club of Bensenville Donates $216 to children's project

The Rotary Club of Bensenville donated $216 to the Humanitarian Service Project's Children's Birthday Project to sponsor four needy children in the program. The club has supported HSP since 1997 through various fund contributions. The Rotary Foundation's slogan is, “service above self”, which the Rotary Club of Bensenville has been devoted to through various projects, both locally and internationally. The club meets at 12:15 on Tuesdays at Two Chefs Restaurant in Bensenville.

The funds will be used for HSP's Children's Birthday Project which provides a child ages 3-11 with a 20-25 lb. Birthday Box containing six new books, six-15 new toys, school supplies, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The child receives the birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.

Jill Rodriguez of the Bensenville Rotary Club stated that they have partnered with HSP for a long time and look forward to opportunities to contribute to HSP's programs which are “very worthwhile.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
