Former MCC baseball player named to its Hall of Fame

McHenry County College has announced the induction of Tony Bacci into the MCC Athletics Hall of Fame.

Bacci, an NJCAA all-American baseball pitcher and outfielder on the 1996 Fighting Scots NJCAA Regional Championship team, joins inaugural inductees women’s basketball head coach Bill Probst, volleyball all-American Michell Pahl and volleyball/basketball all-American Sue Syljebeck.

Bacci was honored Jan. 3 with his NJCAA Region IV and Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Hall of Fame plaques before being surprised with the previously unannounced MCC Hall of Fame induction recognition.

MCC Hall of Fame inductees for 2012 are expected to be announced and inducted later this year.

Since Bacci, a Crystal Lake native, along with his wife and son, was in town to visit family from his home in Perth, Australia, the MCC Athletics Department expedited his selection so that he could receive his plaque in person.

Bacci’s parents, family, and some former teammates were all in attendance for the multiple HOF presentations. Tony was presented another surprise with the unveiling of a large honorary jersey-replica sign with his No. 4, compliments of the Carle Family and MCC, with his name and uniform number emblazoned on it that will be displayed in right field at the MCC Scotland Yard Baseball Facility.

Fittingly, Bacci is the fourth member inducted into the MCC Athletics Hall of Fame.
