CLC Foundation holds fundraising gala for scholarships

College of Lake County Foundation will host a formal gala Saturday, Oct. 29, all in the name of raising money for scholarships.

The Black and White Ball on the Magnificent Mile will be at the InterContinental in Chicago, which opened in 1929. Guests will begin with hors d’oeuvres, open bar, silent auction, raffles and games, and continue on to a dinner in the hotel’s grand ballroom, followed by a live auction.

Music for the evening will be provided by an eight-piece band, the Ron Harris Group. Raffles, a masquerade game and other entertainment will also be available throughout the evening.

Tickets are $250 each. All proceeds support the CLC Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Chairs for the Black and White Ball on the Magnificent Mile are Jannes and John Zobus of Highland Park. Honorary chairs are Richard and Helene Anderson of Grayslake.

Julie Shroka, CLC’s director of alumni relations and special events, said the need for scholarships is greater than ever due to current economic conditions.

“Our tuition is very reasonable, but many students still struggle to pay for their tuition, fees and books. Foundation scholarships address the needs of many different kinds of students and include eight major award programs and nearly 100 designated scholarships,” she said.

During the 2010-11 academic year, Shroka said, the CLC Foundation awarded scholarships to more than 800 students.
