College of Lake County receives $1.5 million grant

Grayslake-based College of Lake County has been awarded a $1.5 million competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Education over five years to continue a Talent Search program.

Talent Search serves at-risk students at high schools in North Chicago, Round Lake, Waukegan and Zion. Under the grant, 850 disadvantaged students will receive tutoring, mentoring, enrollment and financial aid assistance services each year. The grant period runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31, 2016.

In addition, CLC board members at a meeting this week accepted a noncompetitive grant for $378,369 from the Illinois Community College Board’s Carl D. Perkins Title III Program. The funding will be used to provide a variety of services to improve the success of career and vocational students, including special populations.

The grant period runs from now to June 30, 2012.
