It’s official — Stevenson repeats as NSC champion
When rain halted action at Saturday’s North Suburban Conference boys tennis tournament at Lakes, Stevenson’s Patriots needed 1 more victory to successfully defend its team title.The Patriots netted that triumph Monday afternoon in Gurnee.Stevenson senior Ryan Buxbaum and freshman Andrew Komarov edged Lake Forest#146;s Zak Silver/Scott Christian 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 for the No. 2 doubles title at Warren#146;s Almond Road campus, upping the Patriots#146; team total to 36.Runner-up Lake Forest finished with 32 points.Three other taut matches were completed Monday: LF#146;s Brandon Berish/Connor O#146;Kelly nipped Stevenson#146;s Pawel Jaworski/Kiril Lavrenyuk 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (6) in the No. 3 doubles championship; Warren#146;s Wesley Stoller topped Vernon Hills#146; Zack Lee 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the match for third place at No. 2 singles; and Libertyville sophomores Adam Daluga/Adam Grabowski defeated Lake Zurich#146;s Rob Madsen/Steve Pratscher 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the third-place match at No. 3 doubles.A pair of Stevenson entrants #8212; Jeremy Bush (No. 1 singles) and David Packowitz/Ross Putterman (No. 1 doubles) #8212; had captured titles on Saturday.Warren wound up in third place (24.5 points) at the 14-team meet, ahead of Libertyville (20.5), Vernon Hills (14.5), Lake Zurich (12) and Mundelein (11).Coaches recognized an NSC Sportsmanship Award honoree from each school after Monday#146;s action.The selections: Kyler Ward (Antioch), Cody Hepner (Grant), John Engel (Lakes), Silver (Lake Forest), Matt Crisler (Lake Zurich), Grabowski (Libertyville), Jack Craven (Mundelein), Victor Velazquez (North Chicago), Kristoffer Evangelista (Round Lake), Lavrenyuk (Stevenson), Darren Hoveydai (Vernon Hills), Andrew Shiakallis (Warren), Dillon Gardanier (Wauconda) and A.J. Luther (Zion-Benton).
