COD Receives $30,360 FY 2011 Illinois Work Study Program Grant
The Illinois Board of Higher Education has awarded $30,360 to support College of DuPage's participation in the FY 2011 Illinois Cooperative Work Study Program.
As one of 53 Illinois public and nonpublic colleges and universities selected for the funding, COD will partner with nine local industry representatives to offer paid internships for 20 students who are studying for careers in Hotel and Lodging Management and Horticulture, careers which have been identified as having long-term regional growth potential.
Industry partners will include Chef by Request; John Dough Bakery; Labriola Baking Company; McAdam Landscape Professionals; Planter's Palette; Platt Hill Nursery; Schwartz Nursery and Garden Center; Tom & Eddie's; and Westin Hotel.
Employers will collaborate with the COD Cooperative Education and Internship Program and COD faculty to provide academically enriching pre-professional work experiences that will also include community service options. Employers will pay 50 percent of student wages and will be reimbursed for the remainder through the grant.
