United Stationers. Inc. and LagasseSweet, both located in Carol Stream, IL, donated $2,500 to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) to help needy senior citizens in DuPage and Kane counties. The companies' associates raised the funds through payroll deductions to United Stationers/LagasseSweet's charitable foundation. The foundation selected the Humanitarian Service Project as one of its designated charities for 2011. The companies have assisted the Carol Stream-based non-profit since 2007 by donating paper products, conducting giving-trees, food and school supply drives, as well as by furnishing volunteers to help with the charity's various programs.

The donation will be used buy an entire month's worth of fresh fruits and vegetables that are delivered to each of the 120 senior citizens in the charity's Senior Citizens Project. The low-income seniors receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products, in addition to the fresh fruits and vegetables. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and Holiday Meal. Karole Kettering, Executive Director of the HSP said, “United Stationers and LagasseSweet have been true partners for all of our programs that help needy seniors, children and families in our community. Whenever we have called with a specific need, they have responded generously. This latest donation will go a long way towards alleviating the hunger and stress that these impoverished seniors face on a daily basis.”
