African American, Latino Student Summit at COD May 11
The fourth annual African American and Latino Student Summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at College of DuPage.
Cosponsored by the DuPage Regional Office of Education and COD, the event is open to high school freshmen and sophomores and will be held in the Student Resource Center, Room 2800.
This year's theme is “Increasing Employability and Strengthening Our Nation.”
During the summit, participants will address the following topics:
-- The impact of globalization
-- The advantages of courses that lead to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers
-- The roles and responsibilities of African American and Latino students in strengthening the nation
Academic opportunities at College of DuPage
-- Options for financing college
“Because African Americans and Latinos are the two largest minority groups in the country, they need to be aware of the educational opportunities available to them,” said Saraliz Jimenez, Latino Center coordinator at College of DuPage. “We especially need to discuss the importance of STEM careers, which will help students compete on a global level.”
