COD's 'Images' highlights new 3+1 Program, student successes

“Images,” College of DuPage's monthly one-half hour television show, features in its April edition segments on the College's new 3+1 Criminal and Social Justice program with Lewis University and profiles of three students.

Each month, Images highlights the personalities, news and curriculum of a vibrant College of DuPage campus. The show airs on 13 area cable television stations.

The April Images opens with information on the new 3+1 educational partnership between COD and Lewis University that enables students to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal/Social Justice from Lewis University at COD's Glen Ellyn campus.

During the first three years of the 128 credit-hour program, students complete 92 credit-hours of COD courses. The fourth year, students complete 36 credit-hours of Lewis University coursework taught by Lewis professors at College of DuPage.

The result is a Criminal/Social Justice bachelor's degree available at a fraction of the cost of equivalent programs. Students pay COD tuition rates for the first three years, with the final year offered at a significantly reduced tuition rate.

The April Images also features a segment on faculty member Paul Sirvatka. The meteorology professor discusses his approach to teaching and the excitement of connecting with students in the classroom.

In addition, this month's Images features segments on students Jermaine Townes, Michelle O'Halloren and Safura Hajera. The three discuss not only how they came to COD, but the successes they've found here. For Townes and O'Halloren, the College has become a second home as these adult students change careers. Hajera, meanwhile, is a traditional-age student studying biology.

The April Images also offers a sample of courses offered through the College's Continuing Education program. Knife Skills includes a brief demonstration on the proper grip and various cutting techniques, including dicing and julienne.

Images airs at various times on cable television stations in Downers Grove, Wheaton, Addison, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Lemont, Elk Grove, Darien, Aurora and West Chicago. Check local cable listings for times and channels.
