COD's WDCB radio receives $43,462 Illinois Arts Council grant

WDCB 90.9 FM Public Radio at College of DuPage is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. Recently, WDCB received a $43,462 grant from the IAC through the Public Radio and Television Basic Grant Program.

WDCB is one of 25 Illinois public radio and television stations to receive this funding, which will support station operations, programming and public service initiatives.

The station will begin its 35th anniversary season in July 2011. With a focus on jazz, local news, and a variety of specialty music and cultural programs, WDCB is the only jazz station in the Chicago market, the number three media market in the United States.

The news department has received numerous Associated Press awards, as well as the prestigious Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism. In addition, Chicago Music Awards named WDCB the “Best College/Community Station” in 2008 and 2009.

WDCB's weekly cumulative audience is between 160,000 and 205,000 listeners, who average seven hours tuned into the station. The station's 5,000-watt signal and 24-hour noncommercial educational programming reach the entire Chicago metro market, including a substantial portion of northeast Illinois into Indiana.

In April 2010, WDCB-HD2 signed on the air as a Spanish Public Radio/Radio Cosmos, a Spanish language service providing cultural and news programming to the Chicago metro area.
