The Raiders (3-2) scored a run in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings, and then back-to-back RBI singles by Billy Strohl and Tony Tenuta won it in the eighth. Strohl (1-0) pitched all 8 innings to earn the victory, allowing 2 earned runs.
Metea Valley 6, Plainfield Central 3:
The Mustangs (1-0) were a winner in their first varsity game as starting pitcher Billy Sheeren, John Calderon and Tom Bolle combined on a 3-hitter. Ryan Solomon went 3-for-4 while Mike Fitzgerald had 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Glenbard North 4, Schaumburg 0:
Andrew Bergmann fired a 79-pitch 1-hitter with 9 strikeouts and no walks for the victorious Panthers (3-0). Mark Ng homered for Glenbard North while Evin Natick went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Glenbard East 4-12, Downers North 3-7:
In the first game Pat Walsh’s ninth-inning single scored Steve Kinney with the winning run for the Rams (3-1), who received 8 strong innings from starting pitcher Will Koski. Glenbard East rallied from a 7-3 fourth-inning deficit in Game 2 by scoring 4 runs in the fifth inning and 5 runs in the sixth. Kinney went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI while Dan Ryan went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Bryan Jagielo went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI in the second game for Downers North (1-3).
Neuqua Valley 12, Minooka 2:
A 7-run first inning and a 5-run third powered the Wildcats (3-0) to a five-inning victory. Jack Amaro, Ryan O’Keefe, Mike Bogar and Nick Oleskowicz had 2 hits apiece. Winning pitcher Nick Blackburn (1-0) struck out six in 5 innings.
York 5, Benet 4:
The Dukes (3-0) scored their runs on only 3 hits by Joey Grollo, Joe Boozell and Phil Ganser, who drove in a run. R.J. Gatto had 2 RBI for Benet (1-2).
Hinsdale Central 5, WW South 3:
Leadoff hitter Sean Houlihan had a hit and 2 RBI for the Red Devils (1-3) in their win over WW South (1-2). Jeremy Rhoades went 2-for-3 for the Tigers.
Lisle 12, Hinckley-Big Rock 0:
The Lions improved to 6-1 behind a big day at the plate in the five-inning win. Ty Howell went 4-for-4 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Will DeCraene went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Ed Kretch, who went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, and Parker Murray each drove in 2 runs. Winning pitcher Nick Olson scattered 3 hits in 4 innings.
