Social media's for farmers, too
Social media is opening new and exciting avenues for businesses, and now local farmers and agribusinesses can find out how to tap into the trend as well.
Michelle Damico, of Michelle Damico Communications in Prairie Grove, and Marla Pendergrast, of RFP Marketing in Crystal Lake, will lead a workshop titled “Social Media for Planting the Seeds for Business Growth” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at the McHenry County Farm Bureau, 1102 McConnell Road, Woodstock.
The workshop is for farmers and farm-related businesses that want to learn about social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, Damico said.
The goal? Use social media to market businesses and increase sales.
For example, Facebook can be used to post photos of produce, and publicize upcoming farm events, Damico said.
“I have seen farmers who will actually take videos with a flip camera, and set up their own YouTube channel on how to make or prepare some of the produce that they grow. Then they post the link on Facebook,” she said.
The event is sponsored by the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation. The cost is $20 per person and includes refreshments.
