Da Vinci Academy records earthquake in Japan
Rod Allen, who teaches middle school science at Da Vinci Academy in Elgin, has a seismograph in his classroom that captured the March 11 earthquake in Japan.
The data recordings show the initial quake, followed by a series of aftershocks.
Mr. Allen records earthquakes from all over the world, ranging from massive events like the earthquake in Japan to local tremors like the one in felt in Illinois in February 2010.
Allen's recording of the Illinois earthquake was used by the National Geologic Survey to pinpoint the epicenter.
