MCC girls’ softball clinic this weekend

The McHenry County College Athletics Department, in conjunction with MCC Lady Scots’ softball, is sponsoring the second annual MCC ScotStars Softball Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27. The clinic schedule is 10 a.m. to noon for girls ages 8 to 10, and noon to 2 p.m. for girls ages 11 and 12. All proceeds will benefit the MCC Lady Scots travel for the softball team’s trip to Orlando, Fla., on March 24-31.

Clinic sessions are coordinated by the MCC softball coaching staff, Howie Bierman, Jim Summaria and Butch Kunde, and will be held in the MCC Gym in Building A on the college campus, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

The 2011 Lady Scots softball team will actively assist the participants and follow the team’s mission: “to influence and teach young players the skills and attitude they need to succeed.” Participants will learn and practice skills, improve self-confidence, knowledge, ability, and appreciate the positive aspects of softball, all in a supervised collegiate environment, that’s affordable and close to home. Pitching is not included in either clinic.

Participants should arrive five to 10 minutes early, to eliminate delay of the start of each session and so parents can complete a waiver form, if not sent previously.

For liability and safety reasons only the participants will be allowed in the gym during the clinic. Participants can sign up for one day or both days. Cost is $45 for each clinic, one day, two-hour session on Saturday or Sunday. Cost for both days, Feb. 26 and 27, is discounted at $75.

Preregistration on the MCC form is required, along with the submission of the official participant waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Registration and parental waiver forms are available on the MCC athletic website www.mchenry.edu/athletics, and then click on Sports Camps.

Checks must be made payable to MCC Softball. The registration/waiver form, along with a check, can be mailed to MCC Athletics or delivered in person to the Athletics Office, Room A109. A limited number of signups are allowed per session. Each participant must wear indoor gym shoes and bring a glove and preferably their own bat.
