Benet knocks off Loyola
Benet 56, Loyola 43:
The hot-shooting Redwings jumped out to a 24-7 lead after a quarter and went on to an impressive nonconference win in Lisle.
Loyola (19-6) pulled within 34-28 midway through the third quarter, but No. 9 Benet (18-6) responded with an 18-1 run capped by a Sidney Prasse 3-pointer. Kaity Ernsting scored 15 points, Prasse 13 and Ashley Veselik 11 for Benet.
Naperville Central 56, New Trier 46:
Emma Ondik poured in 26 points, and the No. 10 Redhawks finished 5-0 at the Sweet 16 Tournament.
Naperville Central (19-8) jumped out to a 36-13 halftime lead behind Ondik’s 21 first-half points. New Trier cut it to 3, but the Redhawks held on. Jill D’Amico added 10 points. Naperville Central, playing a box-and-one defense, held New Trier standout Maggie Lyon to 6 points.
Earlier in the day Naperville Central beat Schaumburg 48-39. D’Amico scored 14 points, Ondik 13 and Emma Donahue 8.
Glenbard North 58, Glenbard East 34:
The visiting Panthers roared out to a 33-19 halftime lead and didn’t look back, winning their second DuPage Valley Conference game in three days. Bri Harn poured in 26 points and Jackie Jacobs 11 for Glenbard North (6-16, 2-9). Lauren Pusinelli scored 8 points and Michaela Stranski 7 for Glenbard East (4-18, 1-10).
West Chicago 45, West Aurora 34:
Allie Tapanes scored 10 points and Claire Monroe 9 for the Wildcats (16-7, 7-4 DVC) in West Chicago. Mary Connolly added 8.
Lake Park 53, Metea Valley 42:
Alexis Hahn tossed in 24 points, pacing the Lancers (11-12, 4-5 Upstate Eight Valley) in Roselle. Megan Geldernick scored 14 points and Bria Walker had 4 assists and 6 steals for Metea (5-20, 0-10).
Proviso West 68, York 60:
Mary Colon poured in 25 points — going 12 for 14 at the free-throw line — but the Dukes (14-11, 6-3 West Suburban Silver) lost in Hillside to drop a game behind Oak Park in the conference race.
St. Francis 50, Immaculate Conception 22:
The Spartans won their fourth straight behind a solid defensive effort. Fiona McMahon scored 12 points and Kelly Reinke 10 for St. Francis (15-10, 5-3 Suburban Christian Blue), who made 12 of its 13 free throws. Morgan Connelly and Aly Germanos chipped in 7 points apiece.
