CLC eyes Waukegan campus expansion

College of Lake County has made a move that would support its long-term plans to expand the Lakeshore Campus. The Waukegan city council recently approved a memorandum of understanding with the college for the purchase of a former newspaper building for $1 at Sheridan Road and Madison Avenue.

The CLC board is expected to review it Dec. 14, before it goes to the Illinois Community College Board for a vote.

“We want to be able to create a major campus complex in downtown Waukegan that includes our existing buildings and a planned $47.9 million future expansion,” said CLC board Chairman Barbara Oilschlager. “The property would provide the footprint we need for a major new building, and the three properties we purchased last month on Madison Street would give us flexibility in developing a full-service campus.”
