McHenry County Youth Orchestra to begin season

The McHenry County Youth Orchestra will start its 31st season with the fall concert titled “Phenomenal Percussion” at 4 p.m. today at the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake.

This concert will feature percussion soloist Matthew Coley.

All three orchestras will be performing on this concert. Janet Kvam-Holub conducts the Prelude Orchestra. Music Director Russell Vinick conducts the Intermezzo Orchestra, which will be performing Walton's “Crown Imperial March” and the moving “Kaddish” by McBeth, and another piece by Handel. Vinick, also conducting the Symphony Orchestra, will include music composed by Wagner, Herold, Mackey and Beethoven.

Tickets are available by calling the Raue Box office at (815) 356-9212. Ticket prices are: $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors, family tickets (five seats) are $51. A 50 percent discount for group sizes of 20 or more is available.

This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. MCYO is the group that recently brought world-famous violin virtuoso Rachel Barton Pine; the Chicago Brass Band and the international touring group Barrage to the area.

Midseason auditions for MCYO will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park (Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake).
