Vernon Hills bus route to be cut

A portion of PACE bus Route 572, south of Route 60, in Vernon Hills will be discontinued Dec. 13. The route runs from Waukegan west to the College of Lake County and south to commuter train stations in Mundelein and Libertyville and the Westfield Hawthorn shopping center before ending in a southwest side neighborhood in Vernon Hills.

In a review of the route, PACE has determined low ridership and poor on-time performance make that section of the route expendable. The village is checking possible local transportation options, Village Manager Mike Allison said.

With 937 daily rider trips, Route 572 is second only Route 565 in the Gurnee area on the PACE system in Lake County.
