Antioch, Wauconda show commitment
Wauconda's girls volleyball team hosted its “Volley for the Cure match against Antioch on Wednesday night.
The two North Suburban Prairie Division teams then put on quite a show.
Antioch pulled out a 25-22, 21-25, 25-21 win, as Brianna Grant slammed 9 kills and notched 13 digs.
Amber Dalgaard had 23 digs for Antioch (12-11, 3-2), while Sarah Colette collected 5 kills. Jessica Ploss and Haley Horn added 4 kills apiece for the Sequoits, who also got 10 assists apiece from Savana Bailey and Lindsey Gofron.
Erinn Hellweg had a huge night at the net for Wauconda (3-2 NSC Prairie), pounding 17 kills. Megan Tallman and Cara Nance added seven and six, respectively.
Tallman also lofted 22 assists, and Rebecca Thiltgen had 14 digs. Ava Wilhelm served a pair of aces for the Bulldogs.
Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: The Cougars clinched first place in the North Suburban Prairie by winning 25-8, 25-12, as Alisa Welter and Shannon Nugent had 5 and 4 kills, respectively.
Jenn Claussen added 3 kills and 2 aces, and Nikki Wagner also served 2 aces for Vernon Hills (16-13, 5-1).
Lake Forest d. Warren: Tori Lanzillotti recorded 12 kills and 9 digs, as the Scouts won the North Suburban Lake finale 25-18, 25-20.
Alex Funk and Mary Streidl each had 6 kills for Lake Forest (16-7, 3-3).
Lakes d. Grant: The Eagles celebrated “Senior Night in style, winning the North Suburban Prairie match 25-20, 25-22.
Kailey Molloy had 5 kills and 9 assists for Lakes (8-13). Ashley Sodt added 4 kills, Jessie Richter served 3 aces, and Mary Doupis chalked 11 digs.
Lakes coach Molly May said her nine seniors shined.

Zion-Benton d. Mundelein: The host Zee-Bees prevailed 22-25, 25-16, 25-14 in the North Suburban Lake match.
Mundelein (13-5, 2-4) received 4 kills each from Mackenzie Boich, Brittany Busscher and Christine Scott. Karen Chin set 74 of 74 with 15 assists.
