The Vernon Hills-based district has been working with the village and its police department to revise the configuration of crossing guards on Aspen Drive at Route 60 and Augusta Drive. As a result, the Aspen/Augusta crossing guard will be moved to a new, more visible crosswalk being created near the parking lot of Hawthorn Elementary South. A crossing guard will be posted at Augusta until that is operational. Also, the police officer posted at Route 60 and Aspen will be eliminated, as there is no reason for students to cross the busy road to get to school or return home.
