Retired photojournalist to share his work, experiences at MCC talk
The Retired Adult Program at McHenry County College will offer "Hat & Coat - Reflections of a Photojournalist," for both members and nonmembers, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7 in Room B166-167 at MCC. The college is at 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
For Jerry Tomaselli and other Sun-Times photographers, "hat and coat" was the cryptic, but unmistakable command by photo chief Bob Kotalik to drop whatever you were doing and head to the scene of a breaking story. "Hat and coat" is just one of hundreds of vivid memories Tomaselli has gathered over his 35 years as an award-winning Chicago news photographer.
Recently retired after more than 20 years with the Chicago Tribune, Tomaselli has assembled a program featuring many of those memories and the dramatic photos behind them, ranging from sports to disasters lighthearted moments to heart-rending tragedies. His lens has captured compelling portraits of the rich and famous along with colorful but little-known denizens of the Chicago area.
