No roller coaster discussion Monday:Six Flags officials announced they will not appear at the Gurnee village board meeting Monday as originally scheduled. Initially, officials were on the agenda and expected to appear before the village board to request a variance for a roller coaster that would exceed the 125-foot height allowed under law. However, Jennifer Dugan-Savage, director of communication for the theme park, said Friday officials "were no longer on the agenda to appear" at the board meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gurnee Village Hall, 325 N. O'Plaine Road. She said officials are "still considering expansion, but we are just not meeting with the board on Monday." She did not have a date for when the theme park may appear before the board in the future.Critical incident exercise in Lake Forest:A full-scale disaster preparedness exercise is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Grainger headquarters, 100 Grainger Parkway, Lake Forest. Residents can expect to see emergency responders and the U.S. Army Reserve in the central Lake County area and near the Grainger facility on Route 60 responding as if it were a real disaster mission. The purpose of the exercise, being staged by a consortium of local businesses and emergency response agencies in Lake and Cook counties, is to test: communications among responders; on-site management; public safety and security response; triage and medical treatment; and hazardous materials response and decontamination. Several hundred actors and responders will participate.CLC lines up art exhibitions:Eight diverse art exhibitions, ranging from concepts of a mythical paradise to air and space photography, are planned for the 2010-11 season at College of Lake County in Grayslake. The action will be in the college's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art. All events are free and open to the public. The first exhibit, "From Here to Paradise," will run July 9 through Aug. 13. It'll involve works by the Mythopian Artists Group. The group's seven artists specialize in narrative painting in a contemporary context. In the CLC exhibit, they'll examine the concept of what a contemporary paradise might be and what it takes to get there. Gallery hours for July 9 through July 30 will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from Aug. 2 to Aug. 13. A free opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. July 9, with Neal Penesis on the piano along with food and beverages.MainStreet farmers market:The MainStreet Libertyville farmers market will open its 30th season Thursday, June 24. The market is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine every Thursday through Oct. 21 on Church Street off Milwaukee Avenue in the downtown area. Twenty-nine vendors feature produce, fruits, pastries, cheeses, plants, flowers, free range meats and eggs, pickles, olives, mushrooms, pasta, sauces and freshe-made French crepes. Local chefs using produce from the vendors will give a demonstration each week.
