Nursing students back at MCC graduation ceremony
The first class from McHenry County College's nursing program will be among those walking in Saturday's graduation.
The program is the first for the college since the 1970s, according to college officials. Just shy of 50 individuals applied, and 28 were accepted, almost all of whom will graduate at 10 a.m. Saturday, following an 8:30 a.m. pinning ceremony in the Crystal Lake campus' conference center, 8900 Route 14.
Nursing student Sarah Caruso, of Lake in the Hills, has been selected as the commencement ceremony's student speaker. Caruso will graduate with an associate in applied science in registered nursing (ADN), according to a news release.
Caruso, who is the first in her family to graduate from college, said she has always wanted to be a nurse. "I never wavered," she said. "It has been a very difficult two years, but it was an amazing experience. I'm very excited for the future."
Along with the nursing students, another 160 students plan to attend the commencement ceremony, college officials said. A total of 537 students are graduating - 333 with degrees and another 204 with certificates.
