Tuition hike proposed at CLC
College of Lake County trustees expect to vote tonight on a proposal to raise tuition for the first time in two years.
In a recommendation to the elected board, CLC administrators cite a projected decline in state funding as the principal reason to hike in-district tuition from $81 to $90 per credit hour.
CLC spokeswoman Diane Rarick said the tuition increase would be the first in two years. Board members are to gather at 7 p.m. on CLC's main campus in Grayslake to vote on the proposed tuition hikes and other financial issues. The meeting will take place in the board room, A206.
If approved, the new tuition would become effective when the new fiscal year starts July 1.
Illinois' 39 community colleges project losing about $148 million in funding this year. Citing Illinois' budget woes, Palatine-based Harper College last week approved raising tuition from $90 to $98.50 per credit hour starting in the summer.
Also at CLC, it's proposed that a $1-per-ticket facility fee continue for events at the James Lumber Center for Performing Arts. The fee is supposed to offset facility and equipment costs at the venue, which hosted a sold-out Moscow Circus show Saturday.
