Historic meetings set

Libertyville's newly formed historic preservation committee has set meeting dates for 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. Impacts of a preservation ordinance on the value of homes, as well as owners' rights, are expected to be future topics of discussion. Commissioners in their initial meeting said providing research and background on the village Web site, libertyville.com, would be helpful for interested residents. Mayor Terry Weppler, who established the commission, said he favors strong measures to protect downtown buildings but less stringent rules for neighborhoods. The next meeting is Jan. 20.

New student orientations at CLC

New student orientation will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 5-7 at the College of Lake County's Grayslake campus. Officials said recent high school graduates who plan to earn an associate degree or certificate must attend an orientation session. A session also is necessary for students who want to transfer to a four-year college or university, officials said. Mark Lowry, new student orientation/first year experience coordinator, said the January orientation gatherings do not include a one-on-one adviser meeting or registration assistance. He said new students may meet with an adviser and enroll in classes on their own after completing the orientation. For information, or to register for a new-student orientation session, visit www.clcillinois.edu/nso or call (847) 543-2486.
