Rams hang on, top Knights in battle for Grayslake
Klaudia Basierak and Lydia Boyle slammed 7 and 6 kills, respectively, as the Grayslake Central girls volleyball team outlasted Grayslake North 25-20, 15-25, 25-16 in a Fox Valley Fox Division match Tuesday night.
Lucy Peterson and Brianna Peterson added 4 kills apiece for the Rams, while Stephanie Pimpo chalked 13 digs. Emily Anderson set 52 of 52 with 18 assists. Basierak also posted 4 blocks, while Boyle served 4 aces and recorded 8 digs.
"We got off to a fast start in Game 1 and couldn't get clicking in Game 2," Central coach Jason Janczak said. "Credit North's defense and offense for a great match. They kept coming at us all night.
"We got some clutch serving from Emily Anderson," Janczak added, "and some key blocks and kills from Klaudia Basierak and Laura Menta in Game 3 that put us over the top."
Grayslake North (8-26, 2-9) was led by Sarah Walker with 7 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces. Kinsey Siler added 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Brianna Leon had 4 kills and 4 blocks. Lauren Trahan dished out 13 assists on 38-of-38 setting.
Lake Forest d. Wauconda: Maddie Westman had 9 kills and 7 digs for the Bulldogs in their 25-18, 25-21 loss in North Suburban crossover action.
Wauconda (19-10) also received 3 kills apiece from Megan Tallman and Ali Morrison. Michelle Waltenburg chipped in 2 aces and 7 digs.
Mundelein d. Grant: Michelle Parssinen rang up 9 blocks, 6 kills and 4 aces to lead the Mustangs to a 25-13, 25-27, 25-7 win in a North Suburban crossover.
Mundelein (21-8) also got 4 kills each from Brittany Jones and Megan Barron, while Kelsey Sullivan had three. Sullivan lofted 17 assists on 53-of-53 setting and delivered 2 aces, as well. Brittany Busscher served 3 aces and chipped in 2 kills in the win. Alysa Fritz had 13 digs.
Grant received 3 kills from Becca White, and Stephanie Cahill delivered 3 aces.
Stevenson d. Lakes: Kierstyn Hansen served 7 aces, and Rachel Baader and Shannon Mullins slammed 4 kills each, as the Patriots captured the North Suburban crossover 25-6, 25-12.
Baader and Jenna Przybyla delivered 4 and 3 aces, respectively, and neither she nor Maggie Lundstrom missed a set in 38 combined opportunities. Przybyla lofted 9 assists, while Lundstrom dished six.
Amber Hughes led Stevenson (19-12) with 9 digs and Mackenzie Kurth added eight. Anastasia Borozenets posted 3 solo and 3 assisted blocks. Kurth also had 3 kills.
Lakes (13-17) was led by Kailey Molloy with 3 kills and 2 assists (21-of-21 setting). Shanna Hertz had 9 digs.
"We really did not come out focused," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "We let Stevenson walk all over us. Kailey Molloy played well for us. We missed too many blocks and did not pass the ball well in Game 1. Game 2 was a little better."
Zion-Benton d. Round Lake: The Panthers lost the North Suburban crossover 25-22, 25-14.
Round Lake received 3 kills apiece from Chanae Brown and Emily Beane, 10 digs and 2 aces from Stephanie Infante, and 7 assists from Hayley Vaughn.
