Murawski, Lake Zurich slam Lakes
Lake Zurich d. Lakes: Brittany Murawski slammed 7 kills, as the Bears won the North Suburban crossover 25-2, 25-23.
Jenn Grunden served 8 aces for Lake Zurich (14-5), while Alex Karigan and Audrey Bauer added 4 kills apiece. Alexis Hartman set 30 of 30 with 10 assists.
For Lakes (9-9-2), Mandy Fischer had 4 kills and 4 blocks. Jessi Richter added 3 kills and Rachel Sieracke was 22-of-22 setting with 8 assists.
"I think we were awe-struck in Game 1," Lakes coach Carla Thompson said. "We did not even pass serves for the first 10 points. We sort of stood and let Lake Zurich do whatever they wanted to do. Between games, we refocused and found the team that we want to be and came out and did the things that we have worked on."
Mundelein d. Round Lake: Michelle Parssinen and Brittany Busscher had 6 and 5 kills, respectively, leading the Mustangs to a 25-14, 25-7 win in North Suburban crossover action.
Mundelein (15-5) also got 4 blocks from Gina Withrow, 5 aces from Alysa Fritz, 13 digs from Megan Barron and 18 assists from Kelsey Sullivan.
Zion-Benton d. Wauconda: The host Zee-Bees cooled off the Bulldogs, winning the North Suburban crossover 25-21, 25-17.
Stephanie Olson had 8 kills for Wauconda (15-4), while Maddie Westman added five. Megan Tallman distributed 14 assists.
Grant d. Warren: Stephanie Cahill recorded 8 kills, as the Bulldogs pulled out a 25-21, 18-25, 27-25 victory in a North Suburban crossover.
Hannah Couch and Becca McMullin added 6 kills apiece for Grant, while Sophia Trbojevich dished out 20 assists. Sarah Berthiaume notched 18 digs, and Madison DePersio chipped in 5 kills.
Libertyville d. Vernon Hills: Catie Steffen slammed 12 kills, Cindy Zhou lofted 19 assists and Paige Hopper had 14 digs and 7 kills, leading the Wildcats to a 25-27, 25-19, 25-20 win in North Suburban crossover play.
McKenzie O'Brien also registered 14 digs for Libertyville (12-4), and Kaca Savatic set 38 of 38 with 9 assists.
"Defensively, we played smart and tough on the angle attacks of Vernon Hills," Libertyville coach Greg Loika said. "It was an adjustment to their defensive scheme that slowed us a bit offensively, but the Cougars had no blocking answer for Steffen."
Vernon Hills (13-7) received 5 kills apiece from Megan Meline and Nora Snyder. Shannon Nugent contributed 4 kills and 3 blocks, Amy Choi chalked 23 digs and Alana Coy collected 9 assists.
