Thursday's Fox Valley roundup

Crystal Lake South 3, McHenry 0: The Gators (10-1-1, 3-1) were slow to get going but then exploded for 3 second half goals to propel them to victory in this Fox Valley (Valley) matchup Thursday night.

Carey Bienert led the offensive attack with 1 goal and 2 assists while Charlie Oliver added 1 goal and an assist, and John Gutmann added a goal to round out the scoring. Dave Walsh recorded 1 save in goal.

Jacobs 3, Huntley 1: The Golden Eagles (4-4-2, 3-1) and the Red Raiders (4-5-2, 2-2) played an even match throughout the first half as they remained 0-0 at halftime but Jacobs broke out for 3 goals in the second half which proved to be too much for Huntley. The Red Raiders got on the board first as Nick Brownell scored off a feed from Kareem Rassas. Matt Dziadkowiec, Taylor Pignataro, and Nathan Smith then scored 3 unanswered goals to give the Golden Eagles the victory. A.J. Pfatsschbacher recorded 5 saves for Jacobs while Kevin Montelongo stopped 9.

Cary-Grove 5, Dundee-Crown 0: The Trojans scored early and often as they downed Dundee-Crown in this Fox Valley (Valley) match. Jon Guay led Cary-Grove with 2 goals while Matt Latawiec, C.J. Arenberg, and Jacob Cunningham each recorded 1 goal a piece. Will Higgins recorded 2 saves in goal for the Trojans.

Streamwood 2, Loyola 1: The Sabres (4-5-3) defeated Loyola 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Pepsi Showdown and will now move on to face Lyons in the semifinals on Saturday. Victor Aquillar and Rolando Moreno each recorded goals for the Sabres while Edgar Leyva registered 3 saves in the first half and Alex Perez added 3 saves in the second half to secure the victory.
