Snyder's 10 kills lift Vernon Hills
Vernon Hills d. Grant: Vernon Hills stayed perfect in the North Suburban Prairie Division Wednesday night.
Led by Nora Snyder's 10 kills, the Cougars outlasted Grant 25-20, 20-25, 25-21.
Brigid Walsh, Alana Coy and Shannon Nugent added 4 kills apiece for Vernon Hills (13-3, 3-0). Alla Krashevsky contributed 3 blocks, Coy dished out 15 assists and Amy Choi chalked 14 digs.
"We came out a bit flat," Vernon Hills coach Abbie Gutzmer said. "Grant played incredibly tough and we needed to fight hard."
Grant was led by Becca McMullin with 12 kills and 2 solo blocks. Stefanie Cahill and Becca White had 6 and 4 kills, respectively.
Sophia Trbojevich was 61-of-63 setting with 25 assists, while Erin Beskow had 17 digs.
Wauconda d. Lakes: Maddie Westman slammed 8 kills, as the Bulldogs won the North Suburban Prairie match 26-24, 25-19.
Wauconda (8-3, 2-0) also got 17 assists from Megan Tallman, 4 aces from Erin Hellweg and 10 digs from Michelle Waltenburg.
Shanna Hertz had 3 kills for Lakes (4-7, 0-2), which trailed 17-12 in Game 1 before pulling even at 23-23.
Mary Doupis added 6 digs.
"We are doing good things," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "We just need to be doing them consistently. We are not getting enough good digs to get the sets so our hitters can put it away."
Lake Forest d. Stevenson: The Scouts won 25-23, 25-23 in a good North Suburban Lake match.
Stevenson (4-5, 1-1) received 6 kills apiece from Rachel Baader and Carlee Berland. Amber Hughes had 15 digs.
Libertyville d. Zion-Benton: Catie Steffen hammered 8 kills and added 3 blocks, and Mackenzie Haws put up a season-high 9 blocks, as the Wildcats won the North Suburban Lake match 25-12, 20-25, 25-17.
Alanna Connors collected 6 kills on 10-of-10 hitting for Libertyville (4-3, 1-1), while Megan Friedman added five. McKenzie O'Brien and Friedman totaled 10 and 9 digs, respectively.
Paige Hopper chipped in 3 kills and 3 blocks.
"Defense was huge, throwing up a season-high 17 blocks across the board," Libertyville coach Greg Loika said.
