Scouting: DuPage Co. Week 1

Wheaton North at Addison Trail

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

The quick hit: A new era begins at Wheaton North as Joe Wardynski takes the helm. In this game a year ago Northwestern-bound Mike Trumpy notched the first of many 100-yard rushing games. Addison Trail answers with an experienced line and its own strong running game featuring Mike D'Ambrose.

Glenbard East at Willowbrook

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

The quick hit: The road team has won both prior meetings in this rivalry. Look for lots of pounding ground games as Glenbard East revives its Wing T offense and Willowbrook rolls with the Double Wing. Something else to watch? Try the Rams' Jack Merrithey-to-Lee Skinner passing combo.

Evanston at West Chicago

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

The quick hit: Hal Chiodo, who coached Lexington and Morton to 15 playoff appearances, becomes West Chicago's third head coach in as many years. The Wildcats won last year's meeting 23-3 by allowing 0 rushing yards and forcing 4 turnovers. The double-wing running emphasis remains for the Wildcats.

Maine East at Fenton

Game time: 7 p.m. today.

The quick hit: The Bison haven't lost to Maine East in three prior meetings, although last year's was a tight 16-13 victory. With senior quarterback Ricky Prignano out for the first two games, the young Bison need to overcome a lack of depth. The Blue Demons are mired in a 30-game losing streak.

Hinsdale South at Rolling Meadows

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

The quick hit: Hinsdale South lost last year's meeting 41-0 to a Mustangs team that posted 9 wins and advanced to the Class 7A quarterfinals. With returning tackles Dane DeKing and Cody Kuhlman up front, the Hornets' running tandem of Jonathan Sterling and Darrin Kidd should shine.

Downers Grove South at Bolingbrook

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.

The quick hit: A stellar early-season matchup enters its second season on the heels of last year's 10-7 Mustangs win. Downers South's eight returning offensive starters tell the tale as junior quarterback Chandler Whitmer and running back Scottie Williams lead the way.
