Round-up: C-G dumps D-C; Rockets handle Richmond

Cary-Grove's girls volleyball team moved to 2-0 in the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference with a 25-16, 25-23 victory against visiting Dundee-Crown Thursday night.

Erin Wahl notched 3 aces and dug 11 balls for the Trojans (18-4), who benefited from 8 kills apiece by senior Danielle Smith and junior Allison Straumann.

The Chargers were led by 9 kills from senior Amanda Lutzow. Kathleen Collingbourne and Stephanie Thorson each recorded 4 kills for Dundee-Crown (8-4, 1-1).

Girls volleyball

Johnsburg d. Huntley:ŒThe Skyhawks nipped the visiting Red Raiders in a decisive third game to take this Fox Division matchup 25-20, 23-25, 25-23.

Krissie Bergquist killed 11 of her 14 attempts and dug 12 balls. Taylor Karns added 11 digs, Toni Jaehnig had 9 kills and Allison Stellmach contributed 7 kills for Huntley (8-10, 0-2)

Burlington Central d. Richmond-Burton:ŒThe Rockets improved to 15-3 overall and 3-0 in Big Northern-East play with a 25-13, 25-3 victory in Richmond.

"Excellent defense, led by (Brittany) Priest and (Brooke) Porto helped run a fast and efficient offense," Rockets coach Marv Leavitt said. Priest finished with 6 digs, Porto with 8.

Teresa Krog finished with 10 kills, 2 aces and 10 service points for Central, while Stephanie Holthus had 8 kills and 5 digs and Kim Ingraham added 6 kills and 3 blocks. Setter Molly Turk had 25 assists and 3 blocks.

Neuqua Valley d. South Elgin:ŒThe Storm dropped consecutive games to the Wildcats in Naperville, 25-15, 25-17.

South Elgin (3-8, 1-4) was led by 3 kills each from Hayley Bradley and Alyssa Krause. Bradley added 13 assists and Christie Cortese 12 more for the Storm.

Streamwood d. Lake Park:ŒThe Sabres won this Upstate Eight meeting 25-17, 25-22, thanks to 11 kills, 8 digs and 2 aces from senior Katie Post and 23 assists from setter Adriana Salgado.

Betsy Holman had 8 kills and Maxine Andren added 8 kills for Streamwood (9-7, 2-1).

Waubonsie Valley d. Larkin:Œ

The Royals fell to the visiting Warriors 25-12, 25-18 in Upstate Eight Conference play in Elgin despite 3 kills from Jessica Harris, 7 assists and 3 digs from Liza Smithberger. Ashley Gazda contributed 2 kills and 1 block kill for Larkin.

Aurora Christian d. Westminster Christian:ŒThe Warriors fell 25-14, 25-13 in a Private School League affair in Aurora.

Hannah Guge finished with 10 digs, 1 ace and 1 kill, Sarah Russell had 8 assists a block and an ace and Jessica Benson recorded 8 digs and 3 kills for Westminster (4-13, 0-4).

Boys soccer

Westminster Christian 2, Chicago Christian 1: Brady Huddleston scored the first goal for Westminster Christian's (4-6-3, 1-1-1), assisted by Cory Hodge. Ben Carani also scored, assisted by Tyler Beachler. Dan Graves was in goal for the Warriors and collected 6 saves.

Nazareth Academy 2, St. Edward 0: Nazareth Academy held St. Edward (11-1) scoreless. Will Lytle had 5 saves in the net for the Green Wave.

St. Charles North 2, Elgin 1: Joey Perez scored the lone goal for Elgin (8-4, 2-2) in this Upstate Eight Conference loss. Nikil Satish collected 9 for the Maroons.

Bartlett 5, Riverside-Brookfield 0: Bartlett (6-6-1) shut out Riverside-Brookfield in the St. Charles East Tournament. John McClough scored the first of the Hawks' 5 goals. Caesar Chavez , Joey Macchione, and Greg Wermes all had unassisted goals to fuel Bartlett. Doug DiGiovanni also scored and was assisted by Alfredo Traversa. Vince Dinuzzo collected 4 saves in goal.

Huntley 2, Grayslake Central 1:ŒThe Red Raiders pulled out this Fox Division victory thanks to a successful penalty kick with 51 seconds to play by Adrian Alejos.

Niko Carbonara scored his 16th goal of the season in the first half to fuel the victory for the Red Raiders (6-6, 3-2).

Cary-Grove 1, Woodstock 0:ŒNick McDonald scored the game's lone goal in the second half, assisted by Calvin Brown, to lift the Trojans past the Blue Streaks in Valley Division play.

Keenan Walsh snared 5 saves for Cary-Grove (10-2, 4-2).

Prairie Ridge 4, Johnsburg 2: Prairie Ridge (6-8-1, 3-2) was able to defeat Johnsburg with its productive offense. Zach Piekarski scored twice. Ryan McCarty assisted on the first goal and Brandon Pappas on the second. Marcelo Jorge later scored, assisted by Piekarski and Alex Sauciuc rounded out the barrage with his goal, assisted by Jason Bhatta. A.J. Strum was in net for Prairie Ridge and collected 7 saves.

McHenry 1, Crystal Lake South 0: Crystal Lake South (8-7-1, 2-3) was unable to score in this Fox Division game against McHenry (10-1-1, 5-0). Ryan McNaughton scored McHenry's only goal. Zach Dalzel was in the goal for the Gators and collected 6 saves, while Barrett Painter was in the goal for McHenry and had 3 saves.

North Shore Country Day 7, Elgin Academy 0: Elgin Academy (1-7-1) couldn't by North Shore Country day. Erin Thomas was in the goal for Elgin Academy and had 19 saves.

Burlington Central 3, Plainfield South 2: Burlington Central (5-4-2, 1-1-1) came out on top against Plainfield South. Michael McCurdy scored the goal for the Rockets. Nate Parks also scored, assisted by McCurdy, and Enrique Alvarado scored the final goal. Kyle DeRaedt collected 8 saves for the Rockets.

Wheaton Academy 3, Streamwood 1: Streamwood (7-8-1) fell to Wheaton Academy at the Pepsi Showdown. Brian Magana scored the only goal, assisted by Alex Aranda. Juan Ortiz had 7 saves in the goal.
