Teens invited to West Suburban Wordplay July 20

The next West Suburban Wordplay will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, on the second floor of Imago Creative Studios, 216 Prairie St. in Elgin.

West suburban Wordplays are hosted by writer-in-residence Adam Gottlieb and Corey Dillard, director of in-house productions.

The event includes a writing workshop from one of the teaching artists and an open mic (open to any and all participants), followed by a special feature. This follows the Wordplay format very closely, but is more conveniently located for teens in the greater Chicago area.

The West 'Burb Wordplay in Elgin is held on the third Friday of every month. The next date at Imago will be Aug. 17.

Writer's Workshop with Corey Dillard, Adam Gottlieb, or one of the other teaching artists begins at 6 p.m., Open Mic at 7 p.m., followed by a special feature.

On Saturday, Aug. 11, enjoy a family event that will feature a Spoken Word Showcase with the Teen Writers and Artists Project, a "Master Grill Off" showcasing 30 contestants. The community-building event is sponsored by Play for Peace. People Made Visible's Party in the Park will be 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in The Shell at Reed-Keppler Park, 157 W. Washington St. in West Chicago. It also will feature a music medley featuring West Chicago's 4th Point, Sammy and the Knights, and Project 7.

All West 'Burb Wordplay events are open to the public and you are welcome to attend any and all events.

The Teen Writers and Artists Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. They host events such as open mics, poetry slams, workshops in a variety of arts, and more.

T-WAAP is dedicated to mentoring teens in all areas of the arts, providing opportunities to grow and enabling them to achieve their short- term and long-term goals.
