College of DuPage hosts 'Islam in Northwest Africa' March 20

The College of DuPage Middle East Studies Committee will host "Islam in Northwest Africa: The Sahel at a Crossroads" from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the Berg Instructional Center, Room 3H01, on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Babacar Mbengue, History and Islamic Studies instructor at DePaul University, will discuss recent developments in the region, their impact on long-established traditions, and the rise in tension between old and new Islam in Sahel, the region at the intersection of North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
