Northwest Suburban Bar Association hosts installation dinner, Casino Night

Before a large audience comprised of colleagues, friends and family, Jay A. Andrew was sworn in as the new president of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association at The Metropolis Ballroom in Arlington Heights on June 8.

Each year, a new president is sworn in for the Northwest Suburban Bar Association, as well as new officers, board of governors, and foundation board members. The Hon. William O'Maki, Presiding Judge, Third District, Circuit Court of Cook County performed the installation ceremony once again.

The other executive council officers for the fiscal year 2017-18 include: Michael Rothmann, first vice president; Miriam Cooper, second vice president; Gary A. Newland, treasurer; and Moe Ahmad, secretary.

Judge Maki also installed the new board of governors that included Kenneth Apicella, Robert Boszko, Anna Markley Bush, Joette Doran, Scott Kuntz and Scott Zambo. Patricia Jochum will take on the role of association attorney, and Stavri Vako as Parliamentarian.

Anisa Jordan was sworn in as a new foundation board member.

Colin Gilbert was the emcee of the evening's event, and welcomed guests not only to the installation portion of the evening, but to a Casino Night as well, where all of the proceeds benefited the NWSBA Foundation, which funds the Hon. Timothy C. Evans Scholarship for current law students.

Nichole M. Waltz, outgoing president, thanked the bar association and her fellow attorneys for their support and encouragement during her term, and wished the new board of governors well.

After he was installed as president, Jay A. Andrew said he was humbled and honored to take the reins of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association.

"I am thankful that I can be of service to this organization. I would like to think we, as attorneys, have an impact in the suburbs, and by contributing to the foundation through this Casino Night event, can help young attorneys by providing student loan relief," Andrew said.

He also stressed that our organization relies on its volunteer members, and that the Attorney Referral Program will be his "pet project" working to revamp that program for an increased value for members.

The President's Award for Mentorship was presented to Lee F. DeWald for his tireless work for the association, and the encouragement to Jay Andrew, and countless other attorneys to take their involvement and commitment to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association to a higher level.

"As I sat and looked at the casino gaming tables, I thought the NWSBA leadership is doing it right! Trying new things, involving more lawyers both young and old, and keeping the Bar a class act," said DeWald said. "I am proud to be a NWSBA member."

The President's Award for Bench Bar Relations went to Hon. Thomas D. Roti for his assistance in coordinating and obtaining the commitment from the judiciary to preside over the Mock Trial Invitational every year.

Andrew also presented The President's Award to Barry E. Morgan and Sheldon G. Perl, law partners that were essential in getting him involved with the bar association.

"This was a great night for our association. We raised a significant amount of money for a good cause and I am looking forward to serving our association as its president," stated Andrew.
