Myra Becker, of Elgin passed away last week at the age of 94. I had photographed her in May because of a political sign she had made for her yard, but it wasn't the first time. I met her about 4 years ago, right around her 90th birthday, when she was being honored with a lifetime achievement award by the YWCA Elgin. She had been involved with them since 1981 but had been volunteering for causes she believed in for 50 years. She made a real impression on me then and I was really happy to see her a couple of months ago, and happier that she actually remembered me. She was frail and it was a slow trip out to her yard with her caregiver for the photo. I've never been more nervous than watching her navigate the stairs on her porch. But she made it, and she smiled, and her only complaint was that she didn't think she was a necessary element of the photo. I couldn't have disagreed more. Thanks Myra.
