Serve City Athletics opens new club volleyball location in West Chicago

Serve City Athletics, a youth sports organization headquartered in Carol Stream, is excited to announce the opening of its sixth club volleyball facility in the western suburbs.

The newest practice facility is located at Community Fellowship Church, 28W240 North Ave. in West Chicago.

The church's expansive gymnasium will host Serve City boys volleyball club practices from Sept. 19 to Jan. 21 for its 14-and-under team, and Sept. 19 until Feb. 18 for its 16- and 18-and-under teams.

Serve City's first official events at its new location are tryouts for its 2016-17 boys club teams.

The tryouts take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, for age 11 to 14 only, and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, for age 14 to 18 only.

If your son is interested in trying out, register online at www.servecityvolleyball.org/tryouts-1/.

The price to tryout is $5, one of the lowest tryout costs of any area club.

West Chicago's grand opening gives Serve City seven club volleyball locations across the Chicago area. Serve City also operates club teams in Wheaton, Downers Grove, Ravenswood (Chicago), Elgin, Medinah and Sycamore. Serve City has built a reputation for supplying family-friendly club teams that are among the most affordable clubs in the Chicago area while keeping travel and Sunday tournaments to a minimum to respect families' time and budgets.

"We are thrilled to be opening a new practice location in West Chicago," said Tim Maruyama, Serve City executive director and founder. "The facility's location on North Avenue is ideal for enabling us to service families in several nearby communities, including Carol Stream, Winfield, Wheaton and Bartlett. Our hope is that middle-school and high-school guys from around the area will join our club teams and find a program where they will be trained to reach their highest potential not only on the court but off the court as well. Our mission is to use volleyball as a platform to help guys and girls grow both in their volleyball skills and understanding of the game but also in their character, values and leadership skills."

Serve City was founded in 2013 in Chicago to provide children and youth with excellent training from coaches and instructors who care about them as athletes and as individuals. The organization offers three types of athletic programming: recreation, club sports and ministry initiatives. Recreationally, Serve City partners with more than a dozen park districts across the Chicago suburbs, including Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Addison, St. Charles, Hoffman Estates, Geneva, Deerfield, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge and Park Ridge, running classes, clinics, camps and leagues in team sports like basketball, volleyball and soccer and non-traditional offerings such as lacrosse, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, badminton and spikeball.
