Elgin Theatre Company to hold auditions for 'Wait Until Dark'

The Elgin Theatre Company will host auditions for its production of "Wait Until Dark."

Open auditions for the suspenseful thriller will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 13, and Tuesday July 14, with callbacks, if needed, on Wednesday, July 15.

Auditions will be held at the H. Rider Center at Elgin Academy, fourth floor, northeast corner of Kimball Street and Dundee Avenue, Elgin.

Visit www.elgin-theatre.org for driving and parking information.

Rehearsals will begin in late July and continue until show opening on Sept. 11. This is a three-week run, with shows Friday to Sunday through Sept. 27.

For details, contact director Larry Boller at lboller100448@gmail.com or (630) 248-0394. Sides will be sent via email upon request.

Cast consists of 5-6 males and 2 females as follows:

• Husband Sam Hendrix, the menacing Harry Roat, and two suspicious con men - Mike Talman and Sergeant Carlino (all four men age, 25-45);

• Susy Hendrix (recently blind, age 25-40);

• Gloria (young girl age 8-12);

• Two policemen extras (age 20-50).

The play is set in 1944 Greenwich Village. Susan Hendrix, a blind yet capable woman, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment. As the climax builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormentors must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller's chilling conclusion.

Prepared monologues are encouraged, and there will be cold readings from the script. "Wait Until Dark" is set in the 1960s, so dress accordingly.

It is produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
