Lisle wins first sectional championship

Lisle 10, Noble Street Charter 1:

The Lions (20-10) claimed their first sectional championship when a 7-run top of the fifth inning broke open the Class 2A Benedictine sectional final in Lisle. Winning pitcher Ryan Van Volkenburg allowed 2 hits and struck out two in 4 innings. Three relievers closed it out. Jake Oard doubled twice and drove in 3 runs. Cliff Krause, Van Volkenburg, Brian Czyl and Kevin Coppin also had 2 hits.

Lake Park 4, York 0:

Christian Taugner (10-1) pitched a 3-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Lancers (27-10) to victory in the Class 4A Schaumburg regional championship game. Lake Park scored once in the second and third inning before adding 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tom Spear went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Eric Vatch also drove in a run.

Neuqua Valley 4, Yorkville 2:

The Wildcats (27-9) scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally to victory in the Class 4A Romeoville regional final. Jeff Evak, who went 2-for-3, keyed the comeback with a 2-run single. Drew Sterioti and Alex Wolanski also drove in runs. Danny Mokrzycki pitched 5 innings for the win and David Gerber earned the save.

Wheaton North 5, South Elgin 0:

Lake Bachar pitched a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts for the Falcons (26-8) in their victory in the Class 4A Wheaton North regional title game. Nursing a 2-0 lead after one inning, Tom Colletti's 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth gave the Falcons some breathing room. Jake Taschetta went 2-for-3.

Plainfield North 5, Naperville Central 4:

Trailing 3-2 after five innings, Plainfield North rallied to victory behind a 3-run top of the sixth to upset the second-seeded Redhawks (24-8) in the Class 4A Naperville Central regional title game. Matt McBain and Jason Wegner each went 2-for-3 for the Redhawks.

Downers North 6, Metea Valley 5:

Ray Greco's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning provided the Trojans (21-11) with the walk-off victory in the Class 4A Oswego regional final. Downers North needed 2 runs in the sixth to send the game to extra innings. Emil Baftirovski drove in 3 runs for the Trojans, who overcame 5 errors. Andy See went 2-for-4 with a double for Metea Valley (17-15).

Clemente 3, Benet 2:

The Redwings (22-10) fell behind 3-0 and couldn't cap the rally while dropping the Class 3A Clemente regional title game. Benet stranded the tying run at second base in the bottom of the sixth and put the leadoff man aboard in the seventh but couldn't advance him. Connor Hickey and Joe Giuffre drove in runs for Benet while Kevin Jendra went 2-for-4.

Riverside-Brookfield 1, Montini 0:

Bulldogs ace Will Kincanon pitched a no-hitter to eliminate Montini (21-9) in the Class 3A Riverside-Brookfield regional final.
