Hoffman Estates moves on at Geneva

Hoffman Estates advanced in the boys volleyball postseason by claiming a 25-22, 25-16 victory over Streamwood in a regional play-in match at Geneva.

Matt Stacy had a team-best 6 kills for the Hawks, Gregg Lugo was 14-for-15 serving with 2 aces and Shaurya Patel had a team-best 8 digs.

Hoffman Estates next meets St. Charles North in a 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal matchup at Geneva, followed by the host Vikings against Addison Trail in the evening’s second contest.

at South Elgin: Schaumburg handled St. Edward 25-16, 25-16 and will meet Wheaton North in Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal at South Elgin.

Adam Kobiela had 8 kills, Romario Rios had 7 and Cameron Nolan had 6 for the Saxons. Jeremy Musni and Nidhin Thomas each provided 13 setting assists, and Stephen Knitter was 18-for-18 serving with 5 aces.

at Chicago Senn: Wheeling had no trouble advancing to the regional semifinal, topping Senn 25-5, 25-11 to earn a Tuesday matchup against Niles West at about 7:30 p.m., following the first match at Senn.

Jack Anderson had 11 kills and Zack Nauert 8 for Wheeling (14-19), while Juan Gonzales contributed 8 digs and Eric Ruttenberg 14 assists.

at Warren: Fremd earned a spot opposite Barrington in Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal by topping Grant 25-19, 25-21.

at Loyola: Maine West breezed through a play-in contest against Chicago Amundsen 25-5, 25-13 to earn a spot in Tuesday’s regional semifinal against Loyola at 6:30 p.m. St. Viator will meet Niles North in the second match Tuesday at Loyola.

at Rolling Meadows: St. Charles East finished Conant’s season by topping the Cougars 25-14, 25-15 in a regional play-in hosted by the Mustangs.

Patryk Openchowski had a team-best 6 kills, Mark Tomuta had 5 digs and JT Levitt had 5 assists for Conant (1-33).

St. Charles East will play in the second regional contest Tuesday at Rolling Meadows, following the matchup between the MSL East champs and York, which topped Larkin in two games Monday.
