Galat leads Lakes to 7th NSC win

Richard Galat pounded 7 kills, and Lakes’ boys volleyball team defeated Mundelein 25-19, 25-18 Wednesday night for its school-record seventh win in North Suburban Conference play.

Lakes is 7-3 in the NSC.

“It was a strong team win for us with many players contributing,” Eagles coach Wayne Schultz said.

James Olson and Mason Solbrig each had 5 kills for Lakes, while Alex Verhagen added three. Dalton Solbrig dished out 18 assists, Nick Powell recorded 8 digs and Tom Richter posted 4 blocks. Dalton Solbrig and Mason Solbrig had 3 and 2 blocks, respectively.

Mundelein (17-11, 5-3) received 9 kills from John Letz and eight from Blake Burton.

Vernon Hills d. Grant: On senior night, TJ Flis led the Cougars with 5 kills and a block, and Danny Rosentock added 4 kills and block.

Chris Edwards had 2 blocks and an ace for Vernon Hills (22-5, 8-1 NSC). Jake Baruch had 13 assists and 3 aces, and Evan Borden added a kill and a block. All five are seniors and two-year letter winners.

Grant got 4 kills apiece from Tom Blanchette and Ron Torres.
