Hits keep coming for Mundelein

Mundelein’s resurgent season on the softball field continued Tuesday.

The Mustangs hit the 20-game mark by notching a pair of wins over Libertyville. Abbey Rosenow’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh scored pinch runner Emily Panitch and capped a three-run inning, as Mundelein won 12-11, completing a game that was suspended after four innings last month.

In the second game, at Libertyville, Lauren Fairweather hit her eighth home run of the season and Haley Morelli doubled twice, as the Mustangs won 8-5.

Mundelein improved to 20-6 and 7-3 in the North Suburban Conference Lake Division.

Rosenow finished 3-for-4 in the first game. Morelli and Maria DeVito hit homers, while Morelli and Fairweather also had doubles. Maddie Zazas went 2-for-4, and Molly Ellett threw all 7 innings for the win.

Libertyville’s Madi Dembinski went 4-for-4 with a homer, double and 3 RBI. Izzy Alesna (2-for-3), Jamie Stevens (single, 2 RBI), Margaret Haws (2-for-4, RBI), Haley Hoeksel (2-for-5, double, RBI) and Haley Alban (2-for-3, RBI) also had productive games at the plate for the Wildcats.

In Tuesday’s originally scheduled game, Mundelein got 2 hits apiece from Rosenow, Morelli and Hannah Bulgart.

Libertyville received 3-for-4 efforts from Haws (2 RBI), Stevens (2 doubles, RBI) and Dembinki (2 doubles, 2 RBI). Tayler Oberman was 2-for-4.

Lakes 4, Johnsburg 3: Paige Olker recorded the win in the nonconference game, allowing 3 runs over 5 innings. She struck out five, walked four and gave up 8 hits. Ally Purdue held Johnsburg hitless over 1 innings, striking out three and allowing no earned runs.

Montana Mang tripled for Lakes.

Antioch 11, Round Lake 0 (5 innings): Amber Luptak pitched 5 innings allowing 2 hits, striking out one and walking one for Antioch (15-11) in the North Suburban Prairie game.

The Sequoits were led offensively by Katie Phillips, who doubled, and Jessica Pedersen, who had 2 RBI.

Crystal Lake Central 5, Grayslake North 0: Maddie Terlap doubled for one of the Knights’ 2 hits in their Fox Valley Fox Division loss.

Woodstock North 6, Grayslake Central 4: Anna Strickland doubled for Grayslake Central in the Fox Valley Fox contest.

Vernon Hills 1, Grant 0: Tori Smith (1-for-3) knocked in Dana Meline (1-for-3) in the first inning for the game’s only run, as the visiting Cougars improved to 5-9 and 5-3 in the North Suburban Prairie.

Jenn Claussen struck out seven and allowed 6 hits in pitching the shutout for Vernon Hills.

Grant pitcher Caitlyn Moran struck out 11.

Stevenson 3, Lake Forest 1: Taylor Koenigs (2-for-3) lined a 2-run, inside-the-park home run into the gap in the bottom of the first inning, as the Patriots improved to 12-11 and 3-7 in the North Suburban Lake.

Abby O’Connor (2-for-3, RBI) belted 2 doubles for Stevenson and Lexi Yonkovic also had a double. Jordan Cortesi tripled, while Sam Feder led Stevenson in the circle, striking out eight.
