Feely leads Carmel at Conant
Carmel Catholic used the top performances on balance beam and floor exercise and an exceptionally strong effort from all-arounder Lauren Feely to take the team title in Conant’s girls gymnastics invitational on Saturday.
Feely won balance beam (9.85), uneven bars (9.6) and vault (9.75) and tied for first on floor exercise (9.5) to run away with the all-around at 38.7.
The team competition factored in only the top three team scores per team. Carmel scored 28.75, more than a point better than Lake Forest, on balance beam. That helped provide the final winning margin, as the Corsairs scored 110.35 and Lake Forest 109.575.
Third place went to Glenbard West (107.355), followed by Wheaton Warrenville South (102.75), Conant (102.675) and Warren (102.0).
Carmel’s Sarah Cohen-Smith placed second on vault, fourth on beam and tied for sixth on floor. She placed fourth in the all-around (36.65).
Lake Forest’s Brittany Moccia tied with Feely and Conant’s Meicie Bennett on floor exercise. Moccia finished second in the all-around (37.75).
Glenbard West’s top effort came from Mackenzie O’Keefe, who placed third on bars (9.2) and vault (9.5), eighth on beam (9.055) and third in the all-around (36.655).
Audrey Channon led the way for Wheaton Warrenville South with fourth place on bars (9.15), eighth on vault (9.2) and eight in the all-around (35.15) The Tigers also had top-10 finishes from Lenna Klein (sixth on vault, ninth on floor exercise, 10th on beam).
Conant’s Ali Kelly took fifth on floor exercise (9.3), and the Cougars’ Sarah Zorrilla placed eighth on vault (9.1)
Warren’s top finishes came from Krystal Kofoed (4th on floor, 9.4), Becky Stochl (10th on vault, 9.1. and all-around, 34.4), Kelsey Stoecker (eighth on vault, 8.65) and Kyra McCue (10th on vault, 9.1).
