Des Plaines Mayor announcing Illinois House candidacy

Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan will officially announce his candidacy Tuesday for the newly aligned 55th Illinois House District.

Moylan will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 outside the Des Plaines Hartmarx factory to kick off his Democratic primary campaign. He said Thursday he has raised at least $40,000.

If Moylan, 60, wins the March 2012 primary he will face the Republican candidate in the November 2012 general election. That is likely to be Rosemary Mulligan, the current state representative in the 65th District.

Moylan said he has not named a campaign manager yet and does not plan to until at least January.

He was elected Des Plaines mayor in April 2009. He has said if he wins the November election he will remain mayor only until a new mayor is elected in April 2013.

The new 55th district, which includes parts of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg.
