Hersey continues its winning ways

Three-time defending Mid-Suburban League girls volleyball champion Hersey made it 34 straight wins in the MSL East with a 25-18, 25-20 triumph at Buffalo Grove on Tuesday night.

Kelsey Haas (10 kills), Kristen Pedersen (4 kills), Maggie Hogen (3 kills) and Lindsay Boivin (3 kills) led the attack for the Huskies (15-3, 4-0), who own a 1-match lead over Rolling Meadows (3-1).

Huskies junior Abby Fesl dished out 20 assists and Taylor Schill collected 12 digs.

Buffalo Grove (7-10, 2-2) was led on attack by Paige Smith (5 kills) and Bailey North (3 kills) while Victoria Ito and Mary Guth (3 assists) each had 4 digs. Kathy Hampton handed out 8 assists.

Schaumburg d. Palatine: Defending MSL West champ Schaumburg (9-6, 3-10) remained 1 match behind Barrington with a 25-18, 25-22 victory over visiting Palatine.

Sam Mellert (10 assists) and Meghan Falsey (6 assists) directed an offense that received 6 kills from Falsey, and 4 apiece from Kelly Koutnik and Kiana Lewis.

The Pirates (5-6, 2-2) were led by Taylor Fricano’s 6 kills and 13 assists from Laura Kluk.

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: Meadows sophomore setter Jenny Vliet was 12-of-12 with 9 kills and also handed out 9 assists with 10 digs as the host Mustangs (5-7, 3-1) won 25-16, 25-21.

Veronica Drabowski (6 kills), Ashley Montanez (5 kills) and Rachel Mickey (4 kills) were other top attackers for Meadows, which also received 12 setting assists and an ace from Olivia Falk.

Wheeling (1-12, 0-4) was led by Kellie Kuzmanic (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Sydney Keith (7 kills, 1 block) while setter Amanda Mullin collected 17 assists and 5 digs. Sarah Kern sparked the Wildcats in the back row with 15 digs.

Elk Grove d. Prospect: Diamond Boyd (8 kills) and Emily Wary (7) led the attack for host Elk Grove (4-11, 2-2) in a 25-19, 25-18 victory over Prospect (5-6, 1-3).

Samantha Hopkins collected 8 digs and was 13-of-14 serve receiving for the Grens while setter Kerry Souder handed out 8 assists.

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Host Conant (7-12, 1-3) posted a 25-12, 25-21 victory as Allie Bacuh (7 kills), Jenn Donnell (5 kills), Brittany Hoffman (4 kills) and Morgan Peterson (4 kills) led the Cougars’ attack.

Senior Rachael Yordon collected 17 digs while Taylor Levit (11 assists) and Loznjakovic (7 assists) set the offense.

Hoffman was paced by Becca Stoczynski (7 kills) and Destinee Young (4 kills) while Karina Zolp had 10 assists and 7 digs. Nicole Lechowicz had 14 digs and Ali Engelhardt 11 for the Hawks (6-13, 0-4).

Christian Liberty Academy d. Alden Hebron: The Chargers posted a 22-25, 25-20, 26-24 triumph as Beth Cunningham (12 kills), Carly Baric (11 kills) and Vivian Barclay (4 kills) led the attack.
